Ellen’s Story

Howdy Jake – My gelding, Chaperone, and I were lucky participants in your clinic at Flanery Farm on October 7th.  If I had to use a bunch of adjectives to describe you and the experience, I reckon they would include thorough, entertaining, enthusiastic, experienced, knowledgeable, friendly, and let me not forget… talkative!  You came with your own set of sound effects and stories to tell.  If you had a criticism, it was presented politely, without embarrassing someone.  Before the clinic, I told friends that I hoped this Jake guy would communicate well and be very verbal.  You were!

I came away from the day with valuable information that I am applying when playing with Chap.  First, use the driving game to improve the circling game.  Ahhh.  I’m seeing improvement.  Second, when doing the squeeze game, wait 7 seconds before resending the horse through the spot.  I’m finding Chap is more relaxed, not tentative.  And, third… and this was big for me… The more you use your rope, the less you’re acting like you’re playing at liberty.  Duh… why did it take you to ‘splain that to me?

So, I continue on this journey in hopes of Chap and I becoming even more connected and creating an even better partnership with him.  I love this journey and pray that he does, too.

Deb says that you will return next Spring.  I hope to be there.  And, I hope I can get a couple privates with you.  I think I’d gain even more from them.

Thanks for a great experience!  I thoroughly enjoyed the day and your style of teaching.

I’m attaching several photos from the day.  My favorite is the first one where Chap is stepping off with me.  I adore my boy.  He is an enormous part of my life and a friend whom I trust.

May our understanding increase each day as we play with our horses –

Ellen
